| Ouachita National Forest Horseback Trails - 53 miles of very scenic riding trails of various levels of difficulty. The trails are arranged in a clover-leaf fashion. The longest trail is 20 miles. Water and restrooms are provided. |
| Peter Conser Home is the renovated house of the famous Choctaw light horseman returned to its appearance of the Indian Territory period. The interior of the home has been furnished with items reflective of the Conser family's wealth, social position, and the period. Many furnishings are original. |
| Cavanal Hill is located off U.S. 271 in Poteau. It has been documented as being the world's highest hill. It has a 4.5 mile blacktopped road leading to the top of the hill where there is a breathtaking view of the entire Poteau River Valley. |
| Robert S. Kerr Museum is 6 miles southwest of Poteau. It adjoins the Robert S. Kerr Conference Center, formerly the river-bluff mansion of the late Senator Kerr. The museum contains Indian artifacts, Runestone exhibits and a reproduction of the office Senator Kerr occupied while fulfilling his duties as an elected official. |
| Heavener Runestone is located on Poteau Mountain just east of Heavener. The Runestone consists of 8 weathered runes carved into a 12-foot tall sandstones slab by the Vikings, long before Columbus. |
| Cedar Lake Equestrian Camp has over 200 miles of various trail routes through the beautiful Holson Valley and around Cedar Lake. |
| The Overstreet-Kerr Living History Farm is located 10 miles south of Sallisaw. The Victorian style home is recognized by the Oklahoma Historical Society. The home includes period rooms, original woodwork custom made from local materials, and various exhibits. |
| Talimena Scenic Drive is a 54-mile stretch of highway from Talihina to Mena, Arkansas. Cresting Rich Mountain, it offers breathtaking vistas, each one more spectacular than the last. Information stations at each end of the drive, Mena in Arkansas and near Talihina in Oklahoma, provide vintage Southern hospitality. Historical sites along the route divulge a past when early settlers of the young state of Arkansas and the Choctaw tribe in Indian Territory struggled to wrest a life from the harsh land. The drive begins approximately 30 miles south of Poteau. |
| Spiro Mounds - Referred to as the "King Tut of the West", the Spiro Mounds Archaeological Park is located 3 miles east and 4 miles north of Spiro. Spiro Mounds is now maintained and funded by the Oklahoma Historical Society. The park is a 140-acre site encompassing 12 earthen mounds built by Caddoan Indians between 850 A.D. and 1450 A.D. |
